Bangalow Koalas

Bangalow and beyond now has a community group devoted to the village’s unique koala population and the surrounding areas – Bangalow Koalas Inc. is a registered environmental organization with DGR status (deductible gift recipient) and charity/not-for-profit. It became active in May 2016 with the local community realizing the importance of our Koala population on the western side of Bangalow.

Their goal is to create a Koala Wildlife Corridor across the Northern Rivers of NSW, connecting habitat from Byron Bay and surrounds west towards Tenterfield, north to the Queensland border, and south towards Grafton. The ultimate goal is to plant 500,000 trees by the end of 2025.

The Australian Native Bee Company

The Australian Native Bee Company has been in operation since 2008. Steve Maginnity studied Agricultural Science at university and has worked as a high school agriculture and science teacher for over a decade. His interest in native bees started whilst attending a European beekeeping course.

He had intended to establish hives at the school where he was teaching. However, due to the risk of students suffering anaphylaxis from bee stings he was not permitted to bring European bees onto the site. He had heard of an alternative - stingless native social bees. His interest and passion for native bees grew from this and so to did the business he had established. They now sell hives, offer a pollination service, and provide educational talks to school and community groups up and down the East Coast.

Wildlife Twins

The twins showcase some of Australia's Awesome Wildlife. Highlighting the amazing abilities these animals have developed to enable them to survive in Australia's harsh environments. Some may even refer to these abilities as superpowers....think of it! Can you hold your breath like a sea turtle?! Or sleep for 16-18 hours a day, whilst being called adorable?

From lizards to snakes, magpies, dingoes, and wombats, you will learn to love these beautiful animals and hopefully be inspired to help with their conservation.
